Green Street still needs to be paved - and is a major through route for the fire department and many others. I hope this will be on the priority list for 2011 - the holes are likely to get far worse over the winter, and there are too many patches from numerous sewer and gas line accesses over the years.
The city must pave a good percentage every year - or it all starts to fall apart. I just hope the Green street makes the priority cut for 2011.
Warmer weather is on the way, and DPW is starting to figure out what to pave and what to patch. I hope Green St will come to the top of the list of "needs to be paved".
One Washington, they need to pull up the road and put down better base to prevent the ongoing pothole issues. Green St the problem is all the work that been down to the watermain and the local water and sewer issues over the last few years.
Doesn't anyone else who lives on Green St think it needs paving? We need more votes on this item if it is to be taken seriously. The section from St. John's to Pearl is the worst in my mind.
Houses with tall grass, trash in yard, trash all over the street, people hanging out during the day smoking grass on their porches with their babies, Prostitutes on the corner of Main and Green, Crack dealers everywhere, white trash city.... this place is the PITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jane, I live right near green and main, and there are not prostitutes hanging out on that corner. There are many neighbors paying attention.
Unfortunately, the tall grass, white trash, and lack of attention to properties by too many out of town landlords is a problem. But there are many here who care a lot! I've lived here for six yEars now, and things have improved. Don't give up!
Jane- where is the street shaved down? Hopefully that's a sign that it will be paved!
I've never seen prostitutes hanging anywhere around this neighborhood. I also live very close to the intersection of Main and Green St. There are a couple of houses toward Pearl where people hang out on the porches, but not so much at Green St. and Main. Also, for the most part, there is not a lot of garbage on the street -- most people pick it up. Overall, it's pretty quiet and nice. There are potholes, and some of the houses are run down (like many parts of Kingston), but it's not a bad place.
Hopefully Green St has reached the top of the list for next summer - and I hear that they may replace the light at Main and Green with stop signs - which will be better since it will slow down traffic going both ways. I'm keeping up on this.
I've received word that Green Street will be worked on this summer by Central Hudson and then the city. I'm very excited. I'll post more details when I have them. I hope I can close this issue before the end of summer!
They seem to be in progress - I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will in fact make it all the way down the street. Slow but steady progress - hope to close the issue within the month!
